In Harrodsburg, Kentucky, the local authorities have taken three adults into custody following an incredibly disturbing find. These police officers, who have seen a lot in their time, walked into a house that was so messy and unsafe that they’re calling it the absolute worst living conditions they’ve ever come across.
On the night of June 10, the Harrodsburg Police Department went in with a search warrant to a home on Allah Avenue. What they found inside was three poor kids, all of them younger than 12, and another person with developmental disability, all of them living in a place that no one should ever have to live in.
The house was a horror show, with floors plastered in feces and every nook and cranny packed with moldy food and garbage. The smell was unbearable, like a mix of ammonia and excrement, and it hit the cops as soon as they walked in. The fridge was a nightmare, sealed shut and buzzing with cockroaches, and “none of the food (…) in the house was safe to eat.”
The authorities said living there was a real hazard, especially for the kids. One person who lived in this Kentucky neighborhood even admitted that the children were almost always sick because of how dirty the place was.
When the cops talked to one of the kids, they found out that none had eaten anything that day except a bowl of cereal.
Police Say This Kentucky House Was Unfit for Any Living Being
Three adults (Amy Nichols, 30, Robert Ransdell, 38, and Matthew Hardin, 26) have been arrested. All three are at the Jessamine County Detention Center in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
Nichols faces:
- Three counts of first-degree criminal abuse of a child under 12
- One count of knowingly abusing/neglecting a mentally impaired adult
- Eight counts of second-degree cruelty to animals
Ransdell and Hardin are both facing the same serious charges, as they were partners in these terrible actions, which include complicity to child abuse, complicity to adult neglect, and complicity to animal cruelty.

When the police entered the house, they found three dogs and five cats living in a mess. The situation was so bad that trash and waste from humans and animals were everywhere, making it extremely unhealthy. One of the officers who saw this mess wrote in their report that it was so nasty that people or animals could have gotten sick or, even worse, died from it.
The officers said the house was unsafe for kids and that no creature should have had to live there.
Ongoing Child Neglect Investigation Could Bring More Charges
The situation has now led to a more extensive investigation into child neglect, and the authorities have mentioned that further charges could be brought to light based on what they find from the forensic evidence and the medical evaluations.
The house on Allah Avenue’s 500 block was on their watchlist, thanks to previous tips about potential neglect issues. However, it was only during the raid on June 10 that the whole shocking picture came to light. One particularly disturbing detail from the citation is that the fridge was locked, suggesting that the kids had been dealing with a severe lack of food for quite some time.
Officials from the local area have reported that Child Protective Services is looking after the kids.

They ensure the children get the help and care they need. Meanwhile, the adult with a mental disability has been taken to a safehouse, and more evaluations will be done on their condition.
