Donald Trump faced first-hand embarrassment as his birthday celebration didn’t go as planned. The President’s birthday coincided with the US Army’s 250th anniversary and he thought what could be a better way to throw himself a military parade and make the day all about himself.

Military parades are very rare in the United States but Trump announced that 7,000 troops, tanks and army equipment would roll down the streets of Washington DC  on June 14. However, his plans to be the center of limelight met with multiple shortcomings. Firstly, he had anticipated that a huge crowd would gather to witness the grand parade. But the streets were rather empty, and people on the Internet mocked how nobody was interested in Trump’s extravagant military parade. Many highlighted that the $30-45 million spent for the parade could have been used for veterans’ welfare instead.

However, what mostly contributed to Trump’s embarrassment was how people chose to celebrate former President Barack Obama on Trump’s birthday. X users unofficially announced June 14 as Obama Day even though his birthday is on August 4. Social media users posted pictures of Obama while using the hashtag #AllBirthdaysMatter.

Obama appreciation day was celebrated to protest against Trump. Knowing that Trump is an avid social media user, he must have received the message loud and clear.

People ditched Trump’s birthday celebrations in Washington DC as protests were held in several cities simultaneously. No Kings protests were organized on June 14 in protest of Trump’s policies and actions during his second presidency. People have also been protesting against ICE, who have been forcefully detaining immigrants under Trump’s harsh immigration policies.

While Barack Obama chose to remain silent as people celebrated him instead of Trump on June 14, he has now broken his silence on the entire immigration chaos that has led to unrest in the country. He tweeted, “Thirteen years ago, my administration acted to protect young people who were American in every single way but one: on paper. DACA was an example of how we can be a nation of immigrants and a nation of laws. And it’s an example worth remembering today, when families with similar backgrounds who just want to live, work, and support their communities, are being demonized and treated as enemies.”

“We can fix our broken immigration system while still recognizing our common humanity and treating each other with dignity and respect. In fact, it’s the only way we ever will,”  he added.

Obama didn’t comment on people ditching Trump’s military parade, but we know how he likes to poke fun at Trump’s obsession with crowd sizes. At the Democratic National Convention in 2024, Obama made a hand gesture and said, “this weird obsession with crowd sizes.” The crowd erupted in massive cheers and laughs. Obama then added, “It just goes on and on and on.”

There have been many instances when Trump has allegedly lied about the crowd size at his rallies. For Trump, size matters. And it soothes his ego as he loves to live under the false impression that everyone loves him. This time, he hasn’t yet addressed the mockery he has been subjected to due to the tiny crowd at the parade. Instead, he took to social media and wrote, “What a GREAT Parade. Thank you, Army!”

He is either delusional that the parade was a big success in terms of crowd, or is too embarrassed to acknowledge that it wasn’t. Nevertheless, the weekend is over, and so is the parade. What’s not over is the anger among people and the protests against Trump.
