As the Father’s Day weekend approaches, airports across the United States are getting extremely busy. If you are planning to take your dad on a small vacation, here is the TSA checklist you must follow for a safe, easy, and smooth journey.

The Transportation Security Administration has issued a new travel reminder, urging people to follow various rules, especially the 3-1-1 liquid policy and guidelines for frozen and restricted items.

The TSA officials expect a huge traffic at airports across the nation this weekend, as American families gear up to celebrate Father’s Day. The agency is taking more proactive steps to manage the business, while also offering passengers a stress-free experience at security checkpoints.

Among TSA‘s various policies, people are often confused about whether they can carry a full bottle of water. Earlier this week, the Transportation Security Administration issued a strict warning: while empty bottles are allowed through checkpoints, passengers must not carry a full water bottle. Doing otherwise could result in delays, and travelers would also be asked to get rid of the water bottles before proceeding through security.

As this rule often confuses people, TSA checklist emphasizes on following the simple 3-1-1 policy for liquids. This rule allows travelers to only bring their liquids, gels, and aersols in container no more than 3.4 ounces (100 milimeters).

In addition, these containers should be packed inside a clear, quart-sized bag. Remember, you can only take one such bag in your cabin baggage. Any container that exceeds the set limit must be carried inside your checked-in luggage or left behind at the checkpoint.

Some travelers often wonder whether this 3-1-1 rule is applicable to frozen items. The TSA allows ice and other frozen items to pass through their checkpoints, given they are completely solid at the time of security check. Some smart passengers often use this policy to their favor: if your water bottle is fully frozen without any liquid rationale, the agency might allow it to be carried at your check-in.

In addition to the liquid rule, TSA also emphasizes the importance of packing smart. If you carry any item, mentioned as prohibited on the checklist, you could face unnecessary hassle and delays at the airport.

The agency also recommends that the travelers arrive on time during the busy Father’s Day weekend, as the queues could be longer than usual. For domestic flights, passengers should reach the airport at least two hours before boarding, whereas for international flights, it should be three.

If you are a frequent traveler, you know how the TSA PreCheck could come handy in a hurry or a on a busy day. This program prioritizes approved passengers to pass through expedited screening process. This means, unlike general checkpoints, you would not need to take off your shoes, belts, or light jacket. In addition, you can also keep your laptops and liquid pouch inside your carry-on, without needing to unpack.

These small preparations and planning save a lot of time at the airport while also keeping the security process safe and efficient. If you are flying this weekend, make sure to follow the TSA checklist.
