Some people do not regard people who contributed much of their time to bringing them up. Imagine killing your adoptive parents. Yes, some people are sick in their heads like that. This is the story of Heidi Dutton, a 19-year-old from Oklahoma who was sentenced to life in prison for the brutal murders of her adoptive grandparents, Deborah and Larry Dutton. “We killed them,” she reportedly said.

Deborah and Larry Dutton were murdered by Heidi and her accomplice and then-boyfriend, Lucas Walker, right before Christmas in 2022.  The victims were then buried in the backyard of their Dewey home. The home’s Ring doorbell camera caught the crime. Meanwhile, her boyfriend, Lucas Walker, was previously sentenced to 35 years in federal prison for his involvement. His case was held at the federal level because he is a member of the Cherokee Nation.

As per PEOPLE, Walker, who helped Heidi to carry out the horrific murder, used a .22 caliber pistol taken from the home garage to kill the couple as they slept. The sick man shot the grandmother in the face and slit her throat. However, when her husband, Larry Dutton, tried to stop him, the gun got jammed, and so Walker stabbed him repeatedly in the face, chest, and stomach.

The murder was so well planned that cops did not begin investigating until January 20, 2023. The Oklahoma authorities conducted a welfare check at the Dewey home. Blood found under the baseboards led deputies to take Dutton and Walker into custody. Both admitted to the crime shortly after they were arrested.

Cops were horrified when they found Deborah and Larry Dutton wrapped in bedsheets and buried in the backyard near a pool, a heinous crime partly recorded by the home’s Ring security camera. While the remaining evidence was deftly removed, the bloodstains from the scene were a little challenging to remove.

Deborah and Larry Dutton were retired members of the U.S. Air Force who had officially adopted Heidi Dutton and looked after her since she was a kid. Larry was also an ex-community manager. Reportedly, Dutton said she asked Walker to murder her grandparents “because she wanted them dead,” investigators said. He allegedly told Heidi Dutton, “I’ll do it.”

As per Lucas Walker, Heidi only helped him clean the scene after the incident and helped him dispose of the bodies. “This was a calculated and brutal crime, but the law requires us to weigh youth and culpability,” Washington County District Attorney Will Drake said in a statement. “ (via Law & Crime).

Heartbreaking and sad murder cases of older adults like this highlight the injustice and family betrayal that people go through in their everyday lives. It’s important to monitor your surroundings, especially if you live alone. Don’t forget to contact the community or the police for any help in case of danger.
