With all the spotlight American President Donald Trump gets for various reasons, making controversial comments and generating attention remain on the top of the chart. Recently, amid the drama of his breakup with best buddy Elon Musk, Trump has made a controversial rhyme that says, “They spit, we hit.”
Trump made this comment last Sunday while talking to the journalists about people who are protesting the federal immigration raids. He said that the protesters are apparently spitting on the law enforcement officials and such behaviors cannot be tolerated. However, there is no concrete evidence to back up the accusations he made.
Talking about the protestors, Trump said, spitting “and worse” is “their new thing”, without offering any valid proof to support his claims. Then he proceeded to recite the rhyme, saying, “They spit, we hit.” Trump further added, “And I told them, nobody’s going to spit on our police officers, nobody’s going to spit on our military, which they do, it’s a common thing.”
The President then emphasized what he said by adding that if the protestors spit on the face of the agents, “they get hit very hard.” While Trump’s comments have been accused of provoking police brutality and giving them the pass to apply unnecessary force, this is not the first time that he has made a comment like this.

During George Floyd’s murder by a cop in 2020, Trump had infamously said, “When the looting starts, the shooting starts.” It had drawn widespread social media comments back then just like his recent rhyme on the immigration policy protests had caught the attention of netizens.
People on the internet have quickly pointed out Trump’s hypocrisy as he offered pardons to the January 6 capitol rioters who had harmed the law enforcement officials. While the rioters had injured the police and gotten into serious fights with them, Trump decided that their crime was not much and thus granted them pardons.

Talking about the same, one user posted on X, “They did far worse than spitting on Jan. 6.” Another one added, “Sounds like an excessive use of force. One that will surely be taken up with the courts via lawsuits.” A third user chipped in, saying, “Unless you attacked police on Jan 6 then you get to go free and we’ll pay you millions in taxpayer dollars.”
Another user clearly stated their views, saying, “If you spit on a police officer that does not give the police officer the right to beat the crap out of you. It does, however, give the officer the right to arrest you.”

One person also criticized Trump, saying, “Cruelty isn’t a policy, it’s a warning sign. “They spit, we hit” isn’t leadership, it’s incitement. Brutality, dehumanization, and escalation are the ethos of authoritarian regimes. This is far from law and order. It’s about power through fear. And we must resist this evil.”
Trump’s rhyme once again proves his views about the immigrants and how they should be treated. With protests going on against the immigration policies that the Trump administration wants to impose, it now remains to be seen how far the immigrants can successfully protect their rights.
