Kristi Noem is once again in hot water, and this time, most people are extremely furious with how she handled the whole situation. Last week, Ramon Morales Reyes, a Wisconsin resident, was arrested for allegedly writing a letter to the Department of Homeland Security head.

The letter included graphic details of how the person was going to assassinate Donald Trump, so a prompt investigation was launched.

However, federal officials confirmed that it wasn’t Reyes who wrote the letter after extensive handwriting comparison. The father of three’s legal team also emphasized how he did not properly learn to read or write, making it impossible for him to send the letter to ICE.

However, even before the case developed, Noem publicly accused Reyes on social media, leading to many tabloid headlines. On her X (formerly Twitter), she posted last month, “Thanks to our ICE officers, this illegal alien who threatened to assassinate President Trump is behind bars.”

She also attached a picture of the man in her post while adding a press release detailing the case. The one-page letter reportedly mentioned, “You have been deporting my family, and I think it is time Donald J. Trump get what he has coming to him. We are tired of this president messing with us Mexicans. We have done more for this country than you white people.”

The letter writer mentioned that he had been asked to “self-deport” to Mexico, but he had not done it before, “I use my 30-yard 6 to shoot your precious president in the head.”

Given Trump has already faced two assassination attempts, this letter was taken seriously. According to The Associated Press, investigators found out that Reyes was framed. The timing is also questionable, given he was set to testify in a brutal robbery and assault case from September 2023.

The real issue arose when federal officials cleared Reyes but the DHS still sent out press releases accusing him. This move has definitely sparked an outrage on social media. People wants Noem to be held accountable for this mishap. They want Donald Trump to fire him.

“Disgusting. Kristi Noem framed an innocent migrant to boost Trump and pander to the base. Lied about a death threat. Cited a planted letter. This isn’t politics — it’s fascism in heels. Fire her. Now,” wrote one X user.

“Incompetence + stupidity + official power = very dangerous. Kristi Noem apparently fell for an obvious fake letter with sentences like ‘We are tired of this president messing with us Mexicans,” another added.

A third quipped, “Investigators say he was set up – and that the letter she cited was PLANTED. Shouldn’t she should lose her job immediately?”

Meanwhile, the Mexico native is still at the Dodge County Jail in Juneau, Wisconsin, where he was initially booked. His lawyers are now demanding justice for him. “He’s actually suffered more than the average person. To be pulled into the limelight like this, to have a false accusation, the harm he’s suffered,” said Cain Oulahan, an attorney from his defense team.

Morales, who had lived in Milwaukee with his family, has recently applied for a U Visa, a document for victims of serious crimes living in the U.S. illegally.
