Donald Trump’s eldest son Donald John Trump Jr. recently appeared in an interview on CNBC, where he talked about President’s meme coin, aka $TRUMP coin as he was asked the question, “Is that OK — for your dad to have a meme coin?”

The $TRUMP coin has gotten legitimate investors wary, as NBC News had reported, and Donald Trump Jr. also spun a story while describing how the Trump family got themselves into crypto. He mentioned that before Donald Trump was elected the American President for the first time, they were able to visit any bank in the country and get loans as and when required.

However, after Trump became the American President, the facility of going to the banks and getting loans were gone, Donald Trump Jr. said. He further added, “We were debanked” and mentioned that this was the reason that they had to get into cryptocurrency.

In the same CNBC interview, Donald Trump Jr. said, “So, [my family] got into crypto, not because it was like, ‘Hey, this is the next cool thing,’ we got into it out of necessity.” It is interesting how he spun his statement in a way that would make it seem like the Trumps were denied money for the bank because of their political views and not because there were multiple cases of bankruptcy filed by Trump’s companies.

However, after a part of his interview was uploaded on X, netizens were quick to call him out. One user commented, “… anybody who knows anything about bankers (who definitely skew conservative) knows that if you’ve got good credit and you’ve got a good business, they want to be in on the action.” Another user pointed at the financial frauds that Donald Trump and his companies were found to have committed last year and were told to pay penalties in millions and said, “Committing bank fraud will do that.”

As pointed out by a number of social media users, banks stop doing business with people with criminal history. Banks generally do not care about one’s political affiliation and thus Donald Trump Jr.’s attempts at painting their current situation with banks in a different light were immediately called out.

No matter how hard Trump’s eldest son tried to prove that Donald Trump being the president is the reason behind banks stopping business with them, netizens were quick to spot the ‘lies’ in the statement and highlighted the real reasons that might have led the Trump family to invest in cryptocurrency.
