It’s another day and yet another story for women who are fighting for their rights. A female shared on Reddit’s “Am I The A—hole” forum that her ex-husband attempted to join her and their two children on an international trip. However, upon arriving at the airport, he discovered his passport had been revoked due to unpaid child support. According to the U.S. Department of State, if a parent owes $2,500 or more in past-due child support, they are ineligible for an American passport.
The pair divorced two years prior, during which the ex-husband was supposed to pay child support, which he mindlessly failed to do. Reportedly, the woman claimed that before the couple’s messy divorce, he “began an affair” after the birth of their second child. All of that made the divorce proceedings hard to finish. She said she still needs her ex’s permission to take them out of the country.
AITA for not telling my ex his passport was revoked and causing him to miss his flight?

According to PEOPLE Magazine, in this case, the ex-husband’s passport was revoked due to his arrears, preventing him from joining the trip. The woman planned to visit her family with her 8-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter. When the woman told her ex-husband, he said he had always wanted to see her family.
In addition, she added, “I was already expecting this,” the woman wrote, explaining that her ex-husband often tries to tag along on trips she takes with their kids. Anticipating his usual conduct, she ensured all her travel documentation was legally airtight.
“My lawyer prepared a document, which he signed and had notarized, giving me permission to take the kids out of the country for the specified dates,” she shared. “It also included a clause giving him up to 72 hours before the trip to revoke that permission — and he agreed to it.”
She arrived at the airport with their children on the day of the trip. Her ex showed up considerably later, only to discover his passport was revoked when he tried to check in for the flight. While the man was shocked, his ex-wife wasn’t very surprised, as she could feel that something like this could happen.
After the divorce was concluded, a court order clearly stated that as a father, the man was supposed to pay child support. To avoid constant conflict, she enrolled in child support enforcement services, which she says have already suspended “just about everything they can.”
The wife added that the enforcement services usually send the concerned person proper notices to avoid missing dates, but she does not think he bothers opening them. In an update to her post, she said her ex can afford to pay but chose not to due to an ego clash or sheer negligence.
According to her, the woman’s ex-husband was turned away at check-in and won’t be able to get the passport reinstated unless he pays the full amount he owes. People on Reddit, where millions of real-life stories and personal experiences are shared, spoke out to support women.
“It is not your responsibility to keep track of his passport. He would have received official communication of some sort advising of the block on his passport. Disregarding his mail is 100% on him,” one user wrote.

Another added, “Ex needs to put on his big boy pants and read his mail. You aren’t his mom,” followed by a different user who echoed, “Oh darn, the consequences of his actions are catching up to him. You’re not his secretary.”
