Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown has many talking, especially those in America, who have become a subject of mass deportation. Such a man from Wisconsin has been accused of sending a handwritten letter to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after his close relatives were allegedly deported by the administration. In the letter, he made a threat about Donald Trump assassination, reportedly claiming that he would “shoot your precious president in his head.” However, his lawyers claimed that he was intentionally framed in a plan that could deport him.
Ramon Morales Reyes was arrested last week and then publicly identified. However, some sources in law enforcement disclosed to CNN and the Associated Press that Mr. Reyes could not be the person who actually wrote the letter to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
His attorneys and some other immigration advocates insisted that Reyes can’t even write in Spanish, “let alone” English.
“A family member called one of our organizers letting us know this was impossible, as her father had very little formal education and could not read or write,” Christine Neumann-Ortiz, the executive director of Voces de la Frontera, said. According to the ABC affiliate WISN, at the Friday press conference, Christine and others from Reyes’ team demanded a response from Homeland Security.
Kime Abduli, a lawyer representing the Mexico native, said, “We’re asking for a clarification and a correction from DHS to clear Ramon’s name of anything having to do with this.”
According to another report by AP, Reyes, who is a father of two, is scheduled to testify in an assault case. Some federal officials now believe that he fell victim to a scheme that intended to have him deported before his testimony.
Cain Oulahan, another attorney from his team, commented, “He’s actually suffered more than the average person. To be pulled into the limelight like this, to have a false accusation, the harm he’s suffered.”

According to the Homeland Security press release, Ramon Morales Reyes was arrested on May 22 and booked at the Dodge County Jail in Juneau, Wisconsin. He is now pending removal proceedings as DHS claimed he was living in the U.S. without proper documentation.
His one-page letter reportedly mentioned, “You have been deporting my family and I think it is time Donald J. Trump get what he has coming to him. We are tired of this President messing with us Mexicans. We have done more for this country than you white people.”
It also mentioned that Reyes would “self-deport” himself back to Mexico. “But not before I use my 30 yard 6 [SIC] to shoot your precious President in is head [SIC]. I will see him at one of his big ralleys.” Reyes’ letter allegedly concluded. It was received by an ICE officer on May 21, leading to his arrest the next day.
Federal officials confirmed that it wasn’t actually written by the man himself, as his handwriting did not match. However, the DHS is determined to process him. The investigation is currently going on, and Reyes’ lawyers want justice for him.
“I think he deserves more than due process to see if he can stay. I think he deserves to have his name cleared,” said attorney Oulahan.
