Rose West remains one of the most hated figures in British criminal history. She is an English serial killer who, along with her husband, Fred West, was convicted of torture and murder of ten young women between 1973 and 1987.
She also killed her own daughter, Heather, and stepdaughter, Charmaine. The majority of these murders took place at their house at 25 Cromwell Street in Gloucester, England.
West is currently an inmate at HM Prison New Hall, Flockton, West Yorkshire. She was placed there after being convicted of ten murders and sentenced to ten life terms with a whole life order in 1995.
Now 71 years old, West has retreated further from the spotlight. She is living under the alias Jennifer Jones at HMP New Hall, a women’s prison in West Yorkshire. The name change was an attempt to shed the infamous bits of her past. Yet, her criminal legacy preceded her and her attempt to remain hidden failed.

Prison insiders describe her life as full of deteriorating health, seclusion, and hostility from fellow inmates. Rose West was once a terrifying figure, but age is not kind to anyone. She is now frail, struggles to walk and has largely been shunned.
Currently, West resides in a special disabled unit inside the prison. It is due to her declining mobility. Her days are quiet and repetitive. Sources report that she spends most of her time alone.

She largely engages in small and simple activities like knitting and watches nature documentaries in her cell. She hardly ever gets out of her wing, and when she does, it’s mostly with escorts.
Her intimidating and towering personality is gone now. It’s been replaced with an old woman with a diminishing presence. The force and relevance of her character have now gone. There are reports that she made several attempts earlier to socialize with other inmates, but all have failed.
West has allegedly also tried to gift items like vapes in hopes of forming friendships, but her gestures have been met with cold rejection. Her crimes are long and so heinous that none of her fellow prisoners want anything to do with her. They usually keep their distance from her.

Even in prison, some crimes are so horrific that there is no chance of redemption or companionship.
Until 2001, Rose West did try to appeal her convictions. However, after that, she has seemingly resigned to her fate. She now knows that she will be spending all her life in prison, and she has made her peace with the fact. There are 36 women serving life sentences at HMP New Hall. Among those, no one holds more notoriety than Rose West.

Even after so many years of living in prison and her failing health, she is still a force to be reckoned with. Prison staff report that she can be stubborn and occasionally abusive if her demands aren’t met. She may not be a danger to society, but her behavior still hints at the controlling tendencies that once enabled her crimes.
Those interested in True Crimes are still trying to understand the psychology behind these criminal acts. The recent Netflix docuseries “Fred and Rose West: A British Horror Story” has brought their chilling narrative back into the public. These feature new interviews and previously unseen footage that re-examine their reign of terror.
Rose West’s current existence stands in stark contrast to her violent past. Once a participant in unspeakable horrors, she is now living out her final days in loneliness and decline.
