Black Mother Points Finger at Medical Kidnapping for the Whole Situation

It all started last November when Alandria Seabron and her husband, Quentin, two Black parents from Texas, began noticing a limp on their newborn baby’s arm, something the mother would later conclude as rickets. She noticed that Jirah, her daughter, wasn’t gaining weight and also faced difficulties with breastfeeding.

When she finally consulted a doctor, she was advised to reduce breastfeeding. She was informed that the difficulty occurred because her milk had overflowed, and it was recommended that she use a latching device. Seabron said it was startling for Jirah, now 8 months old, as she had to pull her away from breastfeeding.

Then, when Alandria noticed the limp on her arm, the little girl was rushed to Children’s Health in Dallas. The X-ray results shocked the parents as they revealed that Jirah had a broken arm and at least 16 internal fractures.

The father, Quentin Seabron, told CBS-11, “In my head, I thought that it was probably just a dislocated arm. And like any other mother and father, we were surprised at that because how in the world does my child have a broken arm?”

However, the hospital grew suspicious that the parents were involved in this, so Child Protective Services was called. When the investigation began, they said that they were worried that Jirah had low vitamin D levels, but they had no idea that their daughter was also suffering from those internal fractures.

Alandria told CPS that she thought her little girl had rickets as she researched that this condition, which impacts many children with darker skin tones, weakens their bones.

However, after an active investigation, Child Protective Services decided that Jirah should be removed from Seabrons’s home. Although she was ultimately returned to the parents in March, prosecutors decided to build a case against the Alandria.

She was eventually indicted by a grand jury on a charge of injury to a child and causing reckless bodily injury. The prosecutors allege that Seabron caused the limp on Jirah’s arm by “aggressively grabbing, twisting, or pulling” it. In their report, the Mansfield police also mentioned: “grabbing and pulling with force sufficient to cause the fracture.”

The Texas resident was ultimately arrested, and her first court appearance is scheduled for next month. Their attorney claimed that the initial lab results showed signs of overlooked bone health issues. The Seabrons claim that they are a victim of “medical kidnapping.”

“Just the initial labs were so clearly indicative of a child who had some issue with bone health, that that should not have been ignored,” said Shelly Troberman-Miller, their lawyer.

She alleges that their “lack of financial resources” is what led to this situation. “This is as destructive to families as missing abuse in certain cases, right? I mean, if you don’t have a lot of money to defend yourself with highly qualified experts, you aren’t getting your baby back.”
Despite facing criminal charges, the 29-year-old mother, Alandria, continues to worry about her daughter.

Alandria says that the whole ordeal is not just traumatizing for her and her husband, but Jirah is also a victim.

Their lawyer claims that just because of their lack of financial resources, a new can of legal worms have opened up, accusing Alandria of abusing little Jirah.
