Considering Donald Trump’s issue with elite universities, Barron Trump’s choice to enroll at NYU is pretty controversial. President Donald Trump announced in the fall of 2024 that Barron, his youngest son, would be entering the Stern School of Business at New York University. That is when he broke the Trump family’s long-standing custom of attending Georgetown or the University of Pennsylvania.
Don Jr., Tiffany Trump, Eric Trump, Ivanka Trump, and Donald Trump, all passed out from those prestigious schools. Barron’s decision seemed to stand out for the public. However, according to some internet rumors that Nicki Swift mentioned, Barron was rejected by Stanford, Harvard, and Columbia. These three are the most prominent universities in the country.
“Guess what colleges didn’t accept Barron Trump? Harvard. Stanford. Columbia. Any college Trump is attacking — are the ones that with all of his money they said ‘no endowment will let him in,’” one Facebook user sparked the rumor further.
The well-known website Snopes which is known for fact-checking said it was unable to confirm the allegations. Still, Donald Trump told Daily Mail in September 2024, “He was accepted to a lot of colleges. He’s a very smart guy, and he’ll be going to Stern, the business school, which is a great school at NYU.”
Barron also thought about applying to the Wharton School of Business at UPenn, much like his father. “We’re thinking about that right now,” Donald said on The Megyn Kelly Show in 2023.
“It was his decision to come here, that he wants to be in New York … and live in his home,” Melania Trump claimed during an interview on Fox & Friends. She even addressed the rumors that she had influenced the choice. Still, Megyn Kelly remarked, “How do you choose one because they all hate all Republicans, let alone one named Trump.”

Donald Trump’s recent public dispute with these universities is adding more fuel to the rumors. His administration initiated investigations into universities such as Stanford and Columbia and stopped billions of federal grants to Harvard. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse made fun of the president on X, and wrote, “I’m curious how many Trumps were turned down by Harvard.”
One person tweeted, “Harvard needs to release Barron’s application AND HIS REJECTION LETTER and then the whole world will know exactly why Trump is going after them.” Another typed, “Guess what colleges didn’t accept Barron Trump? Harvard. Stanford. Columbia. Any college Trump is attacking—are the ones that, with all his money, still said ‘no endowment will let him in.’”
Remember: all of this is because Harvard turned down Barron. https://t.co/1Aua3vvtRg

One user wrote, “Want to understand the feud between Trump and Harvard? They rejected Barron, Stanford, and Columbia.” Therefore, we can safely say that the rumors are quite strong. We must mention though that none of the allegations are concrete. These are just a collection of posts and hot takes, nothing more. Let’s go back a little. Considering how well-known his family is, Barron’s academic path has been out of the limelight.
Barron attended Oxbridge Academy, which is a prominent private school in West Palm Beach, Florida. This emphasized on Barron’s intellectual level and critical thinking, after departing from the White House in 2021. While the rest of the world saw him grow up in real time, it provided him with much-needed normalcy. Both Donald and Melania were present during his graduation in May 2024, looking as proud as ever.
