Usha Vance, who recently became the Second Lady of the United States, is also a mother at home. She has three kids with her husband, JD Vance. In a recent interview, Usha shared the challenges she has to deal with as a mother to children whose lives are always the center of media attention.
The Vice President also chimed in, praising Mrs. Vance as a good mother who looks after her kids.
Usha, who often brings her kids to many formal events, has often earned praise from onlookers for her parenting style. On Mother’s Day, she opened up about her life as a mother, revolving around her three kids: Ewan, 7, Vivek, 5, and Mirabel, 3. During the Fox News interview, Vance discussed the struggles she faces while raising her kids in the public eye.
“The balancing act today is sometimes easier than it was when I was working full-time in the private sector because I have more control over my schedule and do not feel pulled in as many directions,” Usha Vance noted.
She added, “That said, raising children in the public eye poses new challenges.” The SLOTUS further discussed that her source of inspiration when it comes to motherhood is none other than her own mom, Lakshmi Chilukuri. Usha explained, “My mom does not often give direct advice, but I’ve learned from her example in countless ways.”
JD Vance also praised Usha’s qualities as a mother than she inherited from Lakshmi. “One of her gifts as a parent is always making me feel like I have her full attention, no matter how busy she might be, and I’ve tried very hard to make my children feel the same way,” said the Vice President.

On this Mother’s Day, Usha took photos of her family and shared them on her Instagram. In the caption, she penned, “Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers (especially my own)! You deserve to be celebrated every day, but especially today.”
She also shared her plans for Mother’s Day while speaking with Fox News. “We will have a quiet day, with a family hike and dessert baked by JD,” the SLOTUS revealed that the Vance family plans on enjoying the special day away from the public eye.
She also talked about the gifts she received from her kids. “My kids made me presents at preschool, but they were too excited to wait until Mother’s Day, so we opened them early.”
In her previous interview with the Free Press, Usha Vance talked about how her family’s life has been anything but “normal” since her husband accepted Donald Trump‘s invitation to join the election campaign and eventually took political office. “Obviously, our lives are not normal, and it feels almost absurd to say that they are,” Usha noted.
