Barron Trump may be stepping into adulthood, but according to his mom, Melania, parenting him still comes with its fair share of emotional ups and downs. The 19-year-old, who began college at NYU this fall, is still living at Trump Tower, and Melania is making sure she stays close.
Speaking ahead of Mother’s Day, the First Lady opened up about her continuing devotion to Barron and the rollercoaster of emotions that come with being a mom. “Motherhood: The life-changing event that makes women invincible and exposed at the same time,” she said. “It’s remarkable, really, that my son’s life creates unimaginable, unpredictable concerns and thrills for me, even until this day.”

Melania then added what many saw as a subtle jab at her husband, President Donald Trump. “All caring mothers understand this rare feeling. Nothing against fathers, of course, but in my opinion, and I am sure everyone in this room agrees, only a mother can grasp this particular point.”
Donald, who shares Barron with Melania and has four other children from previous marriages, was quick to praise her parenting during the same White House event.
“I especially want to thank one of the best moms that I know that I’ve ever seen, sometimes she’s almost too good,” he said. “She’s so good with Barron that he’s grown up strong and nice, and he’s a good boy, he’s a good student, so I want to thank you. You’ve done a great job.”
The public exchange comes amid reports that Melania and Donald have been spending more time together recently, and Barron is said to be one of the key reasons. Mary Jordan, author of The Art of Her Deal, told The Washington Post: “Barron is critical here too. Melania is enormously close to Barron, and he is really into the fact that his father is president. Melania and Donald are now spending more time together and appearing as more of a couple than they have in the past. They’ve been in a bunker together, and they’ve come out of it closer.”
Melania also used the opportunity to honor military mothers in her speech, saying, “Military Mothers and America, together, have developed an extraordinary, parallel journey. They are filled with stories of personal sacrifice, determination, loss, and healing. Certainly, only military mothers have experienced this level of grace and resilience in American life.”

She ended her remarks with a message of unity. “Let us unite to honor the beauty of motherhood, champion the grace of our journey, and inspire those who follow. A mother’s love and wisdom empower our children to flourish, instilling in them the courage to reach their fullest potential. Motherhood. Happy Mother’s Day!”
