IRS Confirms $3,000 Tax Refund

American citizens who have recently filed their 2024 federal tax return are in line to receive a $3,000 IRS tax refund. According to the IRS, the average refund amount is around $2,945. The IRS generally issues returns weekly and people who have filed electronically and opted for direct deposits will be receiving their returns soon. Those who have done paperless filing through the IRS’s online portal will receive their refunds sooner than those who opt for a paper filing.

People who have filed their tax return around May 4, 2025 can expect to receive their direct deposits between May 24 – May 31. Since the IRS issues the return within 21 days after receiving a direct and accurate electronic return, the mentioned timeline can be expected to be followed on their part.

It should be noted here that states like Arkansas have gotten an extended deadline to file their tax return because of natural disasters. Citizens of such affected states have till November 3, 2025 to file their taxes. People who have filed their taxes between May 10 and May 17 2025, can expect their returns between June 1 to June 8, 2025.

As reported by Direct Project, “The IRS has confirmed that more than $180 billion in refunds have already been issued for the 2024 tax year and over 80% of refunds are being issued through direct deposit, with an average processing time of 10 to 21 days, depending on individual circumstances.”

It is further reported, “The average refund amount for e-filed tax returns with direct deposit now stands at $2,939, slightly below the expected $3,000 mark due to withheld taxes and adjusted claims. New data reveals that returns with Child Tax Credit or Earned Income Tax Credit are experiencing an additional 2-3 week delay for identity verification and fraud prevention.”

After the IRS marks one’s funds as ‘sent’, it might take up to five days for the bank to process the amount and reflect the same. People who are awaiting their refunds, can check the refund status using the official Where’s My Refund? Tool on the IRS website. Visiting the website, if it shows ‘return received’ that means the refund is being processed. ‘Refund approved’ means that the payment is on the way and ‘refund sent’ means that the payment has been sent and might take up to 5 days to reflect on one’s account.

In certain cases, the IRS might delay the refund process due to a variety of reasons. For instance, if a person has made mistakes while filling up their bank details or any other information, the IRS’ process of the refund might be delayed. Returns that are filed by mails take longer than the ones which have been electronically filed.

Therefore, people who are filing their taxes should be careful about putting their details correctly and also ensure that their signatures and other information are also added at the right places. Any discrepancy in such information will lead to a delay in processing the refund.
