A 22-year-old school employee in New York’s Southern Tier has been arrested and charged with felony and misdemeanor offenses after allegedly sending n-de photos to a 14-year-old boy over three months, authorities said.

Anamaria E. Milazzo, of Elmira, was taken into custody by the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) following an investigation launched after a tip was reported on June 9, 2025. According to the CCSO, a school resource officer at the Greater Southern Tier BOCES received the complaint and escalated the matter to the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division.

That probe concluded that Milazzo had been sending indecent material to the teen since early spring.

Milazzo was officially arrested on June 16, charged with disseminating indecent material to minors in the second degree, a Class E felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a Class A misdemeanor.

She was issued an appearance ticket and is expected to appear in Wellsburg Village Court at a later, undisclosed date.

New York School Confirms Termination After Arrest

The Greater Southern Tier BOCES, where Milazzo used to work, told WETM (a local NBC station) that she got fired. At first, when the news people called them, they said she wasn’t working there anymore. But after the reporters pushed a bit more, they admitted that Milazzo had been working there, but they had to let her go.

They didn’t want to say exactly what she did there, though.

As of June 21, they haven’t talked to People Magazine about it either. We still don’t know if the 14-year-old kid who this is all about had anything to do with the schools or programs BOCES looks after.

Even though Milazzo faced serious allegations, the New York no-cash bail laws allowed her to go free without spending time behind bars before the trial. These laws are designed to keep people from being locked up just because they can’t afford bail for minor offenses that aren’t violent.

Some say we should have stricter laws when kids are involved in cases.

Released Without Bail, But Why?

Despite the seriousness of the charges, Milazzo was released without spending time in custody under New York’s no-cash bail laws, which prevent pretrial detention for many non-violent offenses. This aspect of the case has sparked online discussion, with some calling for tougher pretrial requirements in cases involving minors.

The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office posted Milazzo’s mugshot online, and it’s been spreading all over the internet. As of June 21, nobody has come out and said they’re her lawyer, and she hasn’t said whether she’s guilty. The district attorneys, who decide if she broke the law, haven’t talked to the public about it yet.

The Steuben County Sheriff also said they’re helping investigate what happened. From what the local news station WETM has been reporting, it seems like Milazzo definitely got into trouble because of messages she sent to a kid.

The cops aren’t telling us what app or gadget they used to talk, though.

This child abuse situation is happening during a growing concern nationwide about teachers and other school employees using digital means to take advantage of kids. Schools must tighten their rules about who has access to what and ensure they check out everyone who works with students.

If Milazzo is found guilty, they might have to spend up to four years in jail for the big charge. And, if she is convicted of the lesser charge, too, that could add another year to her time.

If you know anything else that could help with this, the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office would love to hear from you. And if you ever suspect a kid is being exploited, call the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-422-4453.
